The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. – Hellen Keller.
In simple terms, a vision statement focuses on tomorrow and what a business entity wants to ultimately become. It is a statement that reveals the “where” of a business entity.
It describes where the business aspires to be upon achieving its mission.
A mission statement focuses on today and what a business entity does to achieve its vision. It clarifies the “what,” the “who,” and the “why” of a business. It talks about the present leading to the future.
While a mission statement describes what a business should do now, a vision statement outlines what a business wants to be in the future.
Microsoft (at its founding) had this as a vision statement: A computer on every desk and in every home.
TED, which stands for “Technology Education and Design,” has a two-word mission statement and that mission statement is to: “Spread ideas.”
